Wrinkle Relaxers
Wrinkles form when facial expressions are made as the muscle under the skin contracts. Over time, as your skin ages, these repeated expressions and muscle contractions cause wrinkling in the overlying skin. When we are younger our skin has more collagen and elastin and these lines disappear. As we get older and have less collagen and elastin the wrinkles remain present at rest.
Wrinkle relaxers also known as neuromodulators or "tox", are prescription medications that block the release of chemicals that cause these muscle contractions so wrinkles are softened. FDA approved brand names include Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, and Daxxify.

Neuromodulator Treatments
The active drug in all the brands is botulinum toxin, which inhibits the release of acetylcholine causing your muscles to relax.
Once injected with this medication, your nerves will temporarily stop releasing acetylcholine, your muscles relax, and your skin smoothes out in the days following your treatment. You can start to see results within 3 days and full results can take up to 14 days.

The length of duration varies based on the medication used.
